Flexible electronic skins with high tactile sensitivities provide great opportunities in applications of wearable electronics, robotics, and biomedical devices. Here, we introduce highly-sensitive, multifunctional, and flexible electronic skins based on interlocked geometry of microdome-patterned hybrid elastomers. The interlocked microdome arrays provide a giant tunneling piezoresistance due to the enhanced change in inter-microdome contact area in response to various mechanical stimuli, leading to a high pressure sensitivity and rapid response/relaxation times. In addition, we show that electronic skins can detect minute environmental changes in real-time and simultaneously resolve multidirectional forces. Finally, we demonstrate wearable electronic skins for the sensitive monitoring of human breathing flows and voice vibrations, which should find applications in human-health monitoring systems. |
