In this study, pitch-based carbon fibers in the acid were radiated with an electron beam to modify surface, and surface changes were investigated according to each treatment condition. Nitric acid and hydrogen peroxide were used for drenched solution and an electron beam dose was set to 200 kGy. The using nitric acid introduced more oxygen functional groups on the carbon fiber surfaces than using hydrogen peroxide, and nitrogen functional groups were also introduced into the carbon fiber surface. This results were caused that the oxidizing material was easily formed by e-beam radiation in nitric acid than the hydrogen peroxide. It was possible to change the surface properties of carbon fibers from the electron beam radiation, and it could be as environment-friendly and useful way. |
