제목 Effect of Zirconium oxide nanoparticles addition on the PEO coatings produced on AZ91 alloy in silicate based electrolyte
초록 Plasma Electrolytic oxidation (PEO) technology is being progressively acknowledged as an efficient and novel approach for improving the corrosion and wear protection of magnesium and its alloys. Since the PEO coating on any surfaces generally left with a few percent of pores and cracks, therefore several new mechanism and ideas are adopted to cope with the problem. In this study various concentration of ZrO2 nano particles were added to the silicate-based electrolyte  in order to obtain a dens plasma coating which is fundamental to the excellent corrosion and abrasion properties. Surface morphology and cross section of the coatings was analyzed before and after the corrosion test ( potentiodynamic polarization) by scanning electron microscope. Using EDS the zirconium concentration was evaluated in order to understand the effect of ZrO2 nano particles during the corrosion process. From the HV hardness test the highest hardness value was found for the coatings prepared in the 6g/l ZrO2 containg solution. The XRD and SEM observations were also found in agreement with the hardness results.
