The characterization of poly(trimethylene 2,6-naphthalate) surface structure in nano-space using RA-FTIR and GIXRD methods |

The structure and crystallization behavior of polymer in nano-space have attracted lots of interest over recent years. Here, we combined the RA-FTIR and GIXRD to investigate the thickness-dependent chain orientation and crystal structure of PTN with the thickness from 700nm to 50nm. RA-FTIR is a powerful tool to describe the characteristic of polymer with high resolution and sensitivity. We used polarized RA-FTIR to study the confinement effect of PTN within 100nm film during thermal-induced crystallization. And different crystal structures of PTN thin films can be identified clearly by GIXRD. PTN, shows different lamella structures when the film thickness decreases. Edge-on and flat-on lamella structures were obtained in thick and thin anisotropic PTN films separately which were consistent with the result from RA-FTIR. Furthermore, we found that PTN in ultrathin films showed less orientation and retarded crystallization which were also observed by GIXRD and RA-FTIR methods. |
