Precise synthesis of various exact graft (co)polymers by novel iterative methodologies based on living anionic polymerization is described. In the resulting exact graft (co)polymers, not only molecular weights of the main chains and the graft chains, but also distances (or molecular weights) and numbers of the branch points are perfectly controlled. The exact graft (co)polymers successfully synthesized in this study are composed of polystyrene, poly(isoprene), poly(methyl methacrylate), poly(tert-butyl methacrylate), poly(2-vinylpyridiene), and/or poly(2-perfluorooctylethyl methacrylate) segments. Two synthetic procedures using either a 1,1-diphenylethylene derivative or an in-chain-silyl-functionalized AB diblock copolymer anion were employed to synthesize the exact graft (co)polymers |
