Graphene is one of the materials used as a polymer reinforcement. Unfortunately, there are limitations in application to the polymer additive due to the low mechanical properties and poor dispersibility. The edge-functionalized graphitic nanoplatelets by using mechanochemical reaction can resolve these problems. Aliphatic functionalized graphitic nanoplatelets (Ali-GnPs) are prepared with solid graphite and 1-hexene by using a mechanochemical reaction. Ali-GnP/Nylon nanocomposites are easily prepared using a solution process and have outstanding properties including good affinity with Nylon 6. In result, the mechanical properties of Ali-GnP/Nylon nanocomposite were significantly improved compared to pure Nylon 6. Therefore, aliphatic functionalized graphitic nanoplatelets without additional reaction will be applied as a new polymer additive that enhances the performance of the various polymers. |
