Main Chain Polymers Containing Bent-Shaped Mesogen with Acute-Subtended Angle |

Over the last few years, considerable numbers of studies has been made on the relationship between the structure and properties for the banana-shaped molecules. On the other hand, little attention has been given to bent-shaped mesogens with acute-subtended angle. Six semi-flexible polyazomethines containing bent-shaped mesogen with acute-subtended angle were synthesized and characterized. Polymer with 1,2-phenylene central unit and chloro lateral substituent could form a nematic phase, whereas remaining five polymers could form a smectic phase. Interestingly, Polymer with 2,3-phenylene central unit and fluoro lateral substituent could form a B-phase with ferroelectricity. |
