The dihydroxyl terminated polycarbonates were prepared via melt condensation of bisphenol-A and diphenyl carbonate. The effects of catalysts and polymerization conditions on the molecular weight were examined by employing gel permeation chromatography (GPC) and solution viscosity measurements. Three different types of catalysts, namely, La(acac)3, Ba(acac)2 and LiOH, were evaluated. Proper experimental conditions for the synthesis of polycarbonate with controlled molecular weight were found. At the meeting synthesis of functionalized polycarbonate oligomers and their spectroscopic and thermal characterization will be presented. |
