Facile fabrication of superhydrophobic polyimide films by electrospray deposition method |

Superhydrophobic surface has attracted considerable attention because of its properties, such as self-cleaning, anti-fouling, and water-repellent. Superhydrophobic polyimide films were prepared by electrospray deposition (ESD) from poly(amic acid) solution. The polyimide nanoparticles produced by ESD and the surface morphologies of the deposited films were observed using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The SEM images revealed the correlations between the shape of polyimide nanoparticles and the ESD conditions. By changing flow rate, solution concentration and collector temperature, polyimide particles and polyimide thin films with diverse nanostructures were fabricated. It was also revealed that electrospray-deposited polyimide surfaces showed superhydrophobicity. (static water contact angle > 140°) These results indicate that the ESD method is a simple and useful option for preparing nano-structured superhydrophobic polyimide surface. |
