Ultrasensitive pH Sensors Based on Polymer-Dispersed Liquid Crystal-integrated-Organic Field-Effect Transistors |

pH is one of the essential indicators that provide the information of human health and environmental factors (water and soil). In particular, in-situ pH sensing of human body is expected to be another challenge in the next-generation ubiquitous healthcare technology because pH can be signaling the evolution stage of diseases which may alter homeostasis. To date, a pH meter for early diagnosis has been typically used as a tool for the precise pH measurement. However, such conventional methods have a lot of limitations because most of them need a large quantity of analytes and a handling issue for electrodes. Very recently, our group invented polymer-dispersed liquid crystal (PDLC)-integrated-organic field-effect transistors (PDLC-i-OFETs), which can measure a broadband pH with a very small quantity of analytes (micro-liters). This presentation will show the design concept for the PDLC-i-OFETs and discuss the mechanism for in-situ pH measurements. |
