We present a one-step approach to synthesis polydopamine-modified hypercrosslinked polymer (PDA-HCPs), with dopamine serving as surface functionalization agents. Initially HCPs was synthesized through a one-step mild Friedel–Crafts reaction with aromatic hydrocarbons. This mussel-inspired PDA coated HCPs was further modified by the deposition of nickel nanoparticles. The as-prepared Ni@PDA-HCPs was characterized using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, field emission scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The Ni@PDA-HCPs have been used as an efficient catalyst for the transfer hydrogenation reaction of carbonyl compounds (aldehydes/ketones) with 2-propanol in good yields. Furthermore, the recovery and reuse of the catalyst was demonstrated without a detectible loss in activity. |
