Hollow polymer microspheres have many unique physicochemical properties. As a result, the structures are used in various potential applications. To produce hollow polymer microparticles with well-defined nanostructures, various methods have been developed. However, most of the methods takes long processing time. In this research, an easy, green, and low-cost synthetic for producing hollow polystyrene (PS) microparticles nanostructures is conducted. Hollow polystyrene (PS) microparticles were obtained by dispersing PS seed microparticles in an ethanol-water mixture. Adding metal precursors on the particles, hollow PS microparticles were covered with bimetallic nanocrystals. Because of high surface-to-volume ratio, hollow PS microparticles are suitable for supporting materials for catalysts. Bimetallic nanocrystals (Au/Ag) covering the hollow PS microparticles is used as catalysts for the reduction of 4-nitrophenol (4-NP) to 4-aminophenol (4-AP) using NaBH4 as the reducing agent. |
