Development of Stretchable and Transparent Organic Semiconducting Material via Blending of Conjugated Polymer Nanowires and Elastomer |

In this study, we introduce an intrinsically stretchable and transparent organic semiconducting layer through blending organic semiconducting poly(3-hexylthiophene) nanowires (P3HT NWs) with poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS) elastomer. The polymer blending resulted in the semiconducting material where P3HT NWs were embedded in the transparent and elastomeric PDMS matrix. The percolated networks of P3HT NWs with a high aspect ratio were developed in the blend films of various P3HT contents. Organic transistors using the blended semiconducting layers showed comparable device performances to those of homo-P3HT NW devices. The blend active layer exhibited the superior electrical and mechanical stretching stability under high strains and did even after 5000 stretching cycles, as compared to the homo-P3HT NW system. This study demonstrates that blending approach is promising for development of intrinsically stretchable organic semiconductors. |
