Chemoembolization is one of the cancer therapies that blocks the artery in tumor tissue with small beads or polymeric precipitates and delivers anti-cancer drug in the same time. For the better therapeutic effect and convenience on operation, embolic materials need to be radiopaque, biodegradable and adequate to block the blood vessel targeted. However, the embolic materials commercially used do not satisfy these properties simultaneously and need to be mixed at least two or more materials right before the treatment. In this research, we formulated ester-based polymeric microparticle with emulsion method and loaded x-ray contrast agent. The size of polymeric particle is analyzed with optical microscope and radiopacity of particle is observed with C-arm x-ray device. The size of microparticle was around several hundred micrometers, and the radiopacity of particle was high enough to be observed with x-ray device. |
