Tannic acid (TA) is a kind of polyphenol includes catechol, which has been studied as bio-inspired adhesive. In this study, we introduce a transdermal delivery by using TA-modified liposomes. For this, we first reformed the TA with a maleimide group, thus synthesizing TA-maleimide (TAMA). The TAMA showed improved cytotoxicity. Then we attached the TAMA on the liposomes composed of DPPC and 16:0 Ptd thioethanol by covalently binding the maleimide group to the thiol-modified lipid. We showed the skin cell targeting of TA-modified liposomes by in vitro cellular uptake. Finally, we demonstrated that this cell adhesion property of liposomes played a key role in enhancing the transdermal drug delivery. |
