Efficiency test of HEPA filters using PLS as artificial dusts synthesized by emulsion polymerization |

Monodispersed polystyrene latex spheres (PLS) were synthesized by emulsion polymerization. KPS (potassium persulfate) and SDS (sodium dodecyl sulfonate) were used as an initiator and a stabilizer, respectively. The size of PLS could be controlled by adjusting the concentrations of SDS and KPS. The diameters of PLS prepared under different conditions were about 100, 200, and 300 nm, respectively and the coefficient of variation (CV) of the PLS was less than 7%. In order to assess the PLS as proper artificial dusts, the removal efficiency test of HEPA filters has been conducted. The test results show that the PLS synthesized in this work are quite good for filter testing. |
