제목 Unprecedented dependence of catalytic activities on the synthetic origin of metal-organic frameworks: The case of ZIF-8 on CO2 cycloaddition
초록 Catalytic activities of three kinds of ZIF-8s, two of which were prepared in aqueous and methanolic media and the other commercially procured, were investigated. Intriguingly, only the aqueous-derived ZIF-8 demonstrated a significant catalytic activity towards CO2 cycloaddition to epichlorohydrin for producing chloropropene carbonate. In contrast, the other ZIF-8s displayed poor or no catalytic activity. It was found that water molecules occluded inside the post-synthesis pore structures led to the dissociation of Zn-N (pyrrolic and pyridinic) bonds and the subsequent formation of active sites essential for CO2 ­fixation. Analyses also revealed the generation of hydroxyl-coordinated Zn species accompanied by structural densification. These newly formed Zn species, which also served as Lewis acids and bases, were crucial in achieving a marked CO2 cycloaddition performance.
