PEO Coatings on Al6061 Alloy for long Processing Time: Effect on mechanical and electrochemical properties |

This study used an oxidation method to form a coating on the Al6061 alloy to investigate the growth mechanism over time and the microstructure properties of the coating. The specimens were oxidized in the electrolyte alkaline solution {Na3PO4 (8g/l), Na2SiF6 (0.5g/l), NaOH (2g/l)} for various processing time. The microstructure and phase composition of the obtained coatings were analyzed using SEM and XRD techniques. It has been shown that as the time increases, the coatings obtain a uniform spherical pancake-based surface morphology. However, the change in the thickness of the coating layer in the cross-sectional shape showed a gradual increase. Hardness and corrosion investigations were performed using Microvicker hardness test and potentiodynamic polarization technique. Corrosion resistance was the best in the 50 min process and hardness was the highest at 40 min. |
