The effects of precured fillers on polymerization shrinkage and viscosity of dental composites |

Over the past decade, composite materials have been broadly used for dental restorations and significantly improved through various modifications on their formulation that include using more efficient polymerization systems, applying high concentrations of inorganic fillers to produce adequate mechanical properties. But there are limits to apply the composite on the dental restorations. They are due to the extensive shrinkage which accompanied by polymerization and negative influences like micro-leakage, secondary tooth decay by bacterial reentry and inadequate durability. In the present study, three kinds of precured fillers, prepared by the polymerization of nanofiller and Bis-GMA monomer, was used as a modifier in dental composite materials to overcome above limits. We investigated the polymerization shrinkage, viscosity, depth of cure, and mechanical properties for the experimental dental composite resins containing precured fillers. |
