Preparation and properties of ceramic green body with silica and alumina powder employing water soluble polymer binder in slip casting method |

As compared with conventional process of ceramic injection molding, in which wax based binders could only be removed by thermal or organic solvent debinding, the slip casting method for the binary system of silica and alumina was examined in the experiment. Ceramic slip casting has attracted much attention for its capability of producing complicated shape and environmental advantage. In this study, suspension was applied in water soluble polymer binder system for ceramic slip casting. A preform of silica and alumina was prepared by slip casting and heat treatment at 900~1500℃ under N2 gas was performed. It was found that the specimen containing both silica and alumina had higher mechanical properties than that of silica alone. And the state of dispersion of slip was found to affect the critical moisture content which was considerably influenced by the pore and moisture distribution of the consolidated body. |
