A series of sulfonated poly(fluorenyl ether ether nitrile)s were synthesized by the nucleophilic substitution polycondensation of various amounts of 2,7-dihydroxynaphthalene-3,6-disulfonic acid disodium salt and 2,6-difluoro benzonitrile with 9,9-bis(4-hydroxyphenyl)fluorene. The incorporation of the sulfonated monomer unit into copolymers and their structures were confirmed by FT-IR and 1H-NMR spectroscopy. Ion exchange capacity(IEC), thermal stabilities, water uptake, and proton conductivity of the membranes were investigated and compared with the Nafion 117 membrane. The membranes of SPFEEN copolymer showed high thermal stabilities above 400℃. The proton conductivities of the membranes were close to Nafion 117 at the room temperature. |
