Wax is a key ingredient of mascara because of its volume and fixing effect. However, once the wax is exposed to air, it gradually crystallizes so viscosity of the formulation changes. Also, wax contained mascara tends to dry slowly and it can lead to smudge, stick the lashes together. This can lead to make flakes under the eye and difficult removal. So I develop the mascara formulation without wax for smudge and flaking free, easy removal, and still curling and fixing perfectly. Pullulan, polysaccharide polymer, is natural and water-soluble film forming polymer. It has thermoresponsive characteristic, extreme change of viscosity at tepid warm temperature. With pullulan contained mascara, lashes can be curled and fixed by film, and formulation is removed with warm water because the film becomes flexible rapidly. It is not easy to implement both function and easy-cleansing simultaneously, but with the pullulan, I develop easy-on and easy-off mascara which still offers dramatic eyes. |
