제목 Enhanced electro-activity and durability of porous NiZn electrode by CoP deposition for Alkaline Water Electrolysis
초록 The low-temperature Alkaline Water Electrolysis(AWE) can offer the solution for a waste of energy from the intermittent operation of the renewable resources such as wind or solar. The improvements of the poor kinetic efficiency of electrode and mitigation of electrode degradation would increase the system lifetime and thus improve the economic efficiency of AWE. The porous Raney nickel is commercially used as an electrode for the hydrogen Evolution Reaction(HER) of AWE. However, the variable loads arising from the renewable sources can cause the material degradation which affects drop of the performance. Here we investigated the HER activity and durability of CoP-layered porous NiZn(CoPNZ) electrode for AWE. The CoP layer was electrodeposited on the NiZn Raney nickel. The HER activity of CoPNZ showed 100-fold HER activity enhancements over Ni. The addition of CoP layer also improved the on/off durability by retarding the Zn leaching out of the NiZn electrode in alkaline solutions.
