Novel fluorescent probe was synthesized based on tri-peptide to detect heavy metal ions in aqueous buffered solution at acidic pH for the application of the sensing contaminated heavy metal ions in real underground waters. Interestingly, the peptide probe showed a ratiometric response to Al(III) ions among several heavy metal ions in this solvent conditions. Upon addition of Al(III), the excimer emissions of the pyrene of the peptide probe considerably increased and the pyrene monomer emission of the probe significantly decreased. About 5 equiv of Al(III) was enough for the complete change of the fluorescence, which suggests that the probe was very sensitive to Al(III) ions in acidic pH solutions. Furthermore, we investigated the binding mode of the sensor with Al(III) by using ESI mass spectrometry, NMR titration, and pH titration experiments. |
