The coffee grounds have been generated about 300,000 tons annually in Republic of Korea. Recently, various researches to recycle coffee grounds into useful resources have been extensively studied for energy, adsorbent, construction, agriculture, and bio-food applications. In this study, porous activated carbons were prepared for supercapacitors by pyrolysis and CO2 activation of the residues of coffee grounds after oil extraction of them with various solvents. The effect of oil removal conditions on the physical and chemical properties of activated carbons was investigated. In addition, electrochemical properties of supercapacitors prepared using activated carbons based on coffee grounds was discussed with focus on pore structure and specific surface area. |
