This study reports on the aqueous-phase synthesis of rhodium-silver (RhAg) Janus nanoparticles with a controllable Rh ratio from 0.5 to 5 %. To minimize the amount of rhodium, the RhAg nanoparticles were synthesized in two steps: the synthesis of Ag nanoparticles and the formation of a Rh-rich RhAg area on the surface of the Ag nanoparticles. High resolution transmission electron microscopy image and corresponding elemental point view analyses exhibited that the synthesized 20 nm-sized quasi-spherical RhAg nanoparticles were composed of Ag-rich and Rh-rich area, respectively. Catalytic activity that cannot be achieved with a single metal is expected through the changed lattice spacing and surface electronic structure. |
