Recently, the issue of global warming has been greatly emphasized. In this regard, the utilization of carbon dioxide (CO2) as a sustainable feedstock for chemical products has been very interesting topic for researchers. In this study, rigid polyurethane foams (RPUFs) with difunctional and multifunctional CO2-based polyether carbonate (PEC) polyols were prepared and their characteristics, such as compressive strength, thermal conductivity, thermal stability and cell morphology, were investigated. For the preparation of the RPUFs, 42.7 wt% of petroleum-based polyether polyol was successfully substituted by CO2-based difunctional PEC polyol. The higher the difunctional PEC polyol content, the lower compressive strength and the higher thermal conductivity of the RPUFs were observed. The preparation of RPUF only with CO2-based multifunctional PEC polyol was also accomplished, exhibiting low enough thermal conductivity for insulator application. |
