2,3-butanediol (2,3-BDO) is an important chemical intermediate due to its numerous applications in industries. Production of 2,3-BDO by fermentation process using different bacterium and enzymes is an attractive root. Concentration of 2,3-BDO in the final product, after fermentation, is very low. Hence there is need to separate it from broth for industrial applications. Therefore, A conceptual design is proposed in this study to completely separate 2,3-BDO. This study imposed on the rigorous simulation using Pre-reactor and Reactive Distillation Column. The process involved three stages reactor, separator and simultaneous purification and solvent recovery (RD Column). Equilibrium and kinetics were determined by the reaction of BDO and aldehyde as a solvent. More than 92% BDO was recovered by the novel process and up to 99% purity was achieved. The recovery of used solvent (aldehyde) was also considered (more than 88%).
