제목 Thermal Stability Enhancement of Quantum Dots by Post-Synthetic Treatment with Metal
초록 Semiconductor nanocrystals, which is called as quantum dots(QDs), are very small particles showing different optical properties from those of larger particles due to the quantum confinement effect. They emit light of specific frequencies when electricity or light is given, and those frequencies can be tuned by changing size or shape of dots. The merits of broad luminescence region, high color purity and high quantum yield make them useful materials in display industries.
In order to fabricate the devices, colloidally synthesized quantum dots should undergo harsh conditions like thermal annealing or photo-irradiation. During those steps, the surface of quantum dots are destroyed, resulting in high decrease in quantum yields. It is imperative to solve the stability-related problems for their effective applications.
Here, the post-synthetic treatment with metals having self-passivation effect into as-synthesized indium phosphide(InP) quantum dots has been tried and successfully enhanced thermal stability of quantum dots, without altering the optical properties. Quantitative understanding of this phenomenon will enable universal application of this method to all kinds of quantum dots.
