Preparation of silyl-based Triblock Copolymer with Self-Polishing Property |

Antifouling paints have been used to prevent marine organisms from attaching them to the ship hulls which makes the ship spend more fuel on plying by increasing weight of ship hulls. There are many types of antifouling paints, and one of the potential is to coat the immersed surface with trialkylsilyl ester group-based paints with self-polishing property. In this study, poly(tert-Butyldimethylsilyl methacrylate)(tBDMSMA)-b-polyurethane-b-poly(tBDMSMA) tri-block copolymers(TBCs) were synthesized by using hydrophobic polyurethane as macroinitiator in atom transfer radical polymerization(ATRP) for long-term controlled self-polishing coating. And TBCs were tested by the laser scan micrometer to confirm the self-polishing property by measuring film thickness in sea water. |
