Silica nanotubes were prepared by vapor-induced synthesis of silica on AAO wall. As-prepared silica nanotubes within AAO were then treated with various hydrophilic reagents- hydrophilic silanes and COOH-abundant polymer poly(acrylic acid)(PAA). Subsequent etching of AAO and hydrophobic silane treatment produced bi-functionalized silica nanotubes with hydrophobic outer surface and hydrophilic inner surface. SEM, TEM, FT-IR, EDX results indicated that both hydrophobic and hydrophilic treatment on silica nanotube were realized. This methodology offer a novel pathway of preparing asymmetrically functionalized material and the bi-functionalized silica nanotubes would be a possible candidate for nanocarrier and drug-delivery applications. |
