제목 | Empirical study of fabrication parameters for U3Si2 dispersion fuel plates |
초록 | The Reduced Enrichment Research and Test Reactor (RERTR) Program was established to provide the technical means to convert research reactors from the use of highly enriched uranium (HEU) fuel to the use of low-enriched uranium (LEU) fuel. The development of U3Si2 dispersion fuel as the alternative for the LEU conversion of highperformance research reactor fuels has gained interest because of its predictable and stable evolution under irradiation. As one of the demands, KAERI has intended to qualify high-density atomized LEU U3Si2 fuel suitable for the research reactors. To fabricate high-density U3Si2 fuel plates, the optimization of fabrication parameters such as U3Si2 powder sizes, the mixing ratio of fuel powder and the rolling condition are essential. In this study, various fabrication parameters were controlled to successfully fabricate typical fuel loading 4.8gU/cc and the high density 5.3gU/cc and 5.6gU/cc U3Si2 fuel plates based on atomized U3Si2 powders. Furthermore, radiography tests, homogeneity inspections, and the SEM analysis were subsequently performed to verify which parameters affect the fuel quality. |
