Understanding and controlling molecules are the ultimate goal of chemists who are working in the large, and growing, area of solid-state chemistry. This goal has been achieved with the aid of scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) which can visualize atoms and molecules. The structures of physisorbed monolayers of diverse compounds on graphite were visualized and their thermodynamics and kinetics were intensively studied using STM. This two-dimensional (2D) moleuclar assemblies were also applied to graphene field effect transistors (GFETs) and the effects of assemblies were investigated by measuring electronical performance of GFETs. In addition, modified STM allows us to hold a single moleucle while measuring single molecule conductance. The single molecular juntions using various compounds such as stilbene derivatives and quantum dots were formed and their electron transportation behaivors were studied. |
