Photodynamic therapy (PDT) has been used as an anti-tumor agent for a long time by generating reactive oxygen species (ROS) by a photochemical reaction of a photosensitizer (PS), oxygen, and light. In addition, photothermal therapy (PTT) is a non-invasive therapeutic tool that can convert light energy to heat energy including gold nanorod (AuNR) in various types of cancer. Monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) are the most widely used as a promising strategy for successful targeted therapy against a wide range of cancers. Herein, PS and mAb-immobilized AuNRs were prepared through EDC coupling reaction for PDT/PTT combination therapy. Their physicochemical properties were investigated. In addition, singlet oxygen generation and photothermal effect of mAb-immobilized AuNR were evaluated. |
