제목 | Manufacture and Characteristics of Mineral Wool through Melt-Spinning |
초록 | Mineral wool is a kind of material with good thermal and acoustic insulation properties, which mainly made up of fibers. Mineral wool is produced from solid rock, which is melted at 1400~1600℃, forming a highly viscous fluid. After melting, the molten rock flows under the action of gravity to form the jet, which flows onto the system of high speed rotating wheels. And then, mineral wool (fiber) is formed during the process of falling. Usually, a single fiber will be of small diameter (approximately 10~102 microns), with a length of a few centimeters (typically from 5 to 30 cm). In this study, we made mineral fiber by using blast furnace slag as raw material, which is the waste coming from steel and iron casting industry and is not friend to the environment. There is a special point that we use a four-disc spinning machine for spinning of the melt. The surface characteristics of the fibers mainly depend on the contact areas between the wheel and the molten slag, slag molten temperature and discs rotation speed. Particularly, the fibers fabricated in the speed range from 650 to 750 rpm show the smoother surface, while the fibers will have irregular surface with heavy shots. |
