This study investigated the combustion properties of soft wood for the constructional interiors, especially focusing on smoke risk properties in fire scenarios. Smoke risk properties were measured by using a cone calorimeter (ISO 5660-1) and analyzed using Chung’s equations. The external heat flux was maintained at 50 kW/m2. Soft wood used Western red cedar, Needle fir, Larch. Smoke performance index-V (SPI-V) of the specimens were increased by 6.9 to 29.8 times compared with Western red cedar. The smoke risk due to smoke performance index-V increased in the order of Larch < Needle fir < PMMA < Western red cedar. The smoke growth index-V increased from 6.0 to 18.6 times compared with Larch. Smoke risk index-VI by smoke rating index increased in order of Larch < PMMA < Needle fir < Western red cedar. According to comprehensive assessment of smoke risk properties, Larch showed lowest smoke risk materials among the woods. |
