Thermoplastic elastomer-based polymer electrolyte for sodium-ion polymer batteries with advanced electrodes |

Sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) have been recognized as a promising alternative to lithium-ion batteries. However, the liquid electrolyte has inherent safety problems. Polymer electrolyte has been considered as a safer and more reliable electrolyte system. Herein, we report a thermoplastic polyurethane-based polymer electrolyte with high ionic conductivity and high elasticity for SIB application. It has an ambient temperature ionic conductivity of 1.5 mS cm-1 and high elasticity. As the advanced electrode materials for SIB, we synthesized MoS2@C@MoS2 anode and Na3V2(PO4)3 cathode. The sodium-ion polymer cell assembled with MoS2@C@MoS2 anode, polymer electrolyte and Na3V2(PO4)3 cathode showed a high specific capacity with good capacity retention. Our results demonstrate that the sodium-ion polymer cell assembled with thermoplastic polyurethane-based polymer electrolyte can be used as a new energy storage device with high safety. |
