Transition of solution assembly behaviors of block copolymer from semi-crystalline to coil via controlling region-regularity of poly(3-hexylthiophene) |

Conjugated polymer-based block copolymers (BCPs) has been considered as attractive materials to achieve crystalline nanowire (NW) structures through solution assembly. However, the origin of assembly through NWs has not been deeply studied due to the lack of model systems. Herein, we investigate the effect of crystallinity of conjugated polymer on the NW formation by using systemically regio-regularity (RR) controlled poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT) based BCP. A series of P3HT-block-poly(2-vinylpyridine) (P3HT-b-P2VP) copolymer was prepared with RR from 95 to 55%. When RR was under 80%, P3HT-b-P2VP produced an irregular NWs which have longer widths and show lower pi-pi stacking compared with conventional NWs, analyzed by TEM and GIWAXS. In addition, when RR was lower than 65%, P3HT-b-P2VPs was totally acted as coil-coil BCPs, resulting in formation of spherical micelle. Thus, we demonstrate nanostructures from amorphous micelle to crystalline NW can be tailored by RR of the P3HT. |
