Improvement of Dissolution Rate as Ratio of Atorvastatin Solid Dispersion Using Water Soluble Polymers |

Atorvastatin is used for the treatment of dyslipidemia and the prevent of cardiovascular disease. It has about 14% of bioavailability. The aim of this study is to improve the dissolution rate of atorvastatin calcium by solid dispersion. Solid dispersion was formulated by using the water soluble polymer such as PVP, and Eudragit E PO. The crystallinity of atorvastatin calcium was measured using X-ray diffraction. Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy was used to analyze the change in chemical structure of the atorvastatin and mixtures. SEM images indicated morphology of drug, polymer, and prepared solid dispersion. The in vitro test was implemented to confirm characteristic of dissolution of atorvastatin solid dispersion in simulated intestinal fluid (pH 6.8). This study showed improvement of dissolution rate of atorvastatin by water soluble polymer and spray drying. This research was supported by Polymer BIN Fusion Research Team. |
