The dynamic mechanical properties of polystyrene-based ionomers were investigated. It was found that this polystyrene-based ionomer showed clustering behavior, as experted. However, it was observed that the size of the matrix Tg was larger but that of the cluster Tg was much smaller that the corresponding loss tangent peaks for the poly(styene-co-methacrylate) ionomer. This indicated that the presence of the bulky group at the beta position of an ionic repeat unit for the poly(styrene-co-tiglate) ionomer, compared to the small hydrogen for the poly(styrene-co-methacrylate) ionomer, made the ionomer form weak multiplets, which led to less clustering. |
