제목 Microparticle formation of PEG/PEO-PPO-PEO using carbon dioxide as a supercritical antisolvent
초록 Carbon dioxide has been promoted as a sustainable solvent, as CO2 is non-flammable, relatively low toxic and naturally abundant. It has been widely used for micronization of polymeric materials as a supercritical solvent and antisolvent. But microparticles of hydrophilic poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) formed by supercritical antisolvent process with hydrophobic carbon dioxide as an antisolvent showed poor particle morphologies. In this stuy, the effect of poly(ethylene oxide)-poly(propylene oxide)-poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO-PPO-PEO) on particle shape, particle size and particle size distribution of PEG was investigated. Methanol, ethanol and acetone were included as solvents to study solvent effects on particle morphologies. Pressure, temperature and PEG/PEO-PPO-PEO ratio were major parameters to be considered. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and laser particle size analyzer were used to characterize particle size and morphologies.
