Phosphorescent Ir(III) complexes are particularly promising for innovative applications such as electrophosphorescence for OLEDs. Many studies have been performed with an aim to achieve high efficiency phosphorescence with controlled color. One of prime advantages of phosphorescent Ir(III) complexes is versatility in their ligand structure. By manipulating framework, constituent atoms and substituent of ligands, it is feasible to attain various phosphorescence behaviors. We have extensively focused on four issues in these phosphorescent Ir(III) complexes: 1) phosphorescence color tuning by employing excited-state interligand energy transfer, 2) wide bandgap host materials for blue electrophosphorescence, 3) high efficiency dendritic Ir(III) complexes and 4) functional phosphorescent Ir(III) complexes exhibiting fluoride ion sensing capability, photochromic on/off switching or enhanced PLQY in solid state. Introductory results on above issues is presented in this talk. |
