Hollow polymeric microspheres (HPMs) are receiving increasing attention due to various potential applications in bioactive materials, diagnostics, drug-delivery system and so on. Most of the methods for preparation of HPMs have to include requisite steps for sacrificial template preparation or elimination. In this study, we proposed a novel and facile route for the fabrication of polymeric shell particles. Highly monodisperse single emulsion droplets of ethoxylated trimethylolpropane triacrylate (ETPTA) were generated by using a microfluidic device. ETPTA were rapidly encapsulated with aqueous solution of surfactant containing photo initiator which can be diffused into emulsion droplets with time. After UV exposure, polymeric shell structures which have uncured core region could be fabricated. Various functions also could be incorporated into polymeric shell structures by introducing fluorescence dye or inorganic colloidal particles such as magnetic nanoparticles. |
