Newly developed polyketone fiber, synthesized from ethylene and carbon dioxide, has the similar tenacity and modulus to the p-aramid fiber and has higher breaking elongation and good adhesion property with a rubber. Therefore, it is expected that it can be applied to the reinforcement of the mechanical rubber goods (MRG) such as tires, hoses and protective gloves. In this study, to enhance the interfacial adhesion between polyketone fiber and silicone rubber matrix, primer treatments are conducted to modify the surface morphological and chemical properties of fiber. The effects of primer treatments on the surface of the fiber and interfacial adhesion of the Polyketone/Silicone composite were characterized by using a microdroplet debonding test and a XPS (X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy). Morphological changes were observed by using a scanning electron microscope (SEM) and an atomic force microscope (AFM) as the primer treatment conditions. |
