Mechanical and thermal properties of kuzu vine reinforced poly(L-lactic acid) biocomposites |

Bio-fibres are replacing symthetic reinforcements traditionally used for preparation of the environmentally friendly composites. This study is focused on the analysis of the thermal and mechanical behaviour of processed biocomposites (biodegradable composites). Root of Kuzu vine fibre reinforced poly(L-lactic acid)(PLA) biocomposites have been fabricated with varying fibre contents by a compression molding method and their mechanical and thermal properties have been studied in terms of tensile and flexural properties, and thermal stability. The results demonstrate that chopped kuzu vine fibres play an important role as reinforcement for improving the mechanical properties. Also the thermal stability of kuzu vin/PLA biocomposites is likely to be intermediate between the PLA matrix and the kuzu vine fibre depending on the chopped fibre content. |
