Anionic Ring-Opening Polymerization of Hexafluoropropylene Oxide with Fluorinated Diluents |

In this study, we will discuss anionic ring opening polymerization of HFPO using mono-functional catalyst and fluorinated diluents, including 1,3-bis(trifluoromethyl) benzene (BTFMB) and methoxy-nonafluorobutane (MNFB), which feature relatively high molar mass. Reference polymer without diluent was also prepared for comparison. Anionic ring opening polymerization of hexafluoropropylene oxide (HFPO) using mono-functional catalyst prepared by combination of cesium fluoride (CsF) and tetraethylene glycol dimethyl ether (TG) in presence of fluorinated diluents such as BTFMB and MNFB. End chain of polymers were derived into methyl esters and fully characterized by gel permeation chromatography. Anion fluorine chain transfer reaction was decreased in the presence of MNFB. In addition, the reaction temperature and amount of fluorinated diluents was important factor to propagate of anionic ring opened HFPO. |
