The Annals of the Joseon Dynasty treated with beeswax have serious damages such as crack and discoloration, although others treated with no beeswax have been keeping the quality during over several hundred years. It is convinced that the beeswax on the Annals resulted in these deteriorations. Therefore, we made Hanji treated with beeswax using auto bar coater with a hot plate and dewaxed Hanji using thermo-mechanical extractive treatments for conservation of the Annals treated with beeswax. The ageing mechanism of beeswax Hanji, and dewaxed Hanji was evaluated by measuring changes of mechanical strength, optical and chemical properties. |
