Polymer thermistors for non-invasive temperature sensor are attracting attention because their several advantages including flexibility, conformability and biocompatibility. However, most polymer thermistors containing a high concentration of opaque filler still have issues such as low sensitivity, optical transparency and operational durability due to low electrical conductivity and inefficient hopping transport. I present a highly sensitive and transparent positive temperature coefficient (PTC) thermistor using silver fractal dendrites (AgFDs) and a polyacrylate has been demonstrated. It exhibits a superior PTC intensity (~107) because of the high electrical conductivity of the AgFDs and the quantum tunneling effect resulting from their unique structures. Moreover, it shows excellent optical transparency, mechanical flexibility, and operational durability. Based on these characteristics, the thermistor was successfully demonstrated for real-time temperature monitoring of human body. |
