Polymer solar cells have been highlighted as one of the most viable candidates among next generation solar cells, because they can be manufactured at room temperature by excluding expensive vacuum chambers in the long run. Recent reports showed that most of high efficiency polymer solar cells have been fabricated with bulk heterojunction films of p-type polymers and n-type fullerene derivative (so called polymer/fullerene solar cells). Although the efficiency of polymer/polymer solar cells lags far behind that of polymer/fullerene solar cells, they are understood as the final goal for ‘real plastic’ solar cells. In this presentation, we synthesized new n-type (electron-accepting) polymers and then tried to apply them for the fabrication of polymer/polymer solar cells. We have particularly focused on the effect of thickness to improve the device performance and will show series of device data together with optical and surface measurement information. |
