The lithium-sulfur (Li-S) battery is regarded as a promising post lithium-ion battery. However, sluggish redox kinetics and sulfur electrode passivation problems is critical issue of Li-S batteries. Using the salt and solvent which have high Gutmann Donor number can resolve the positive electrode passivation problem, but they have poor Li metal compatibility and poor ionic conductivity. To solve these issues, we introduce the lithium salt anion which has the high dielectric constant, thiocyanate (SCN-). Due to high dielectric constant, it can raise the solubility of Li2S which produces the 3D grown Li2S. Moreover, increased elemental sulfur solubility brings about an increment of sulfur utilization. Therefore, we can achieve more capacities during solid to liquid reaction. These capacities generated in this reaction are utterly maintained under high current density operations. Consequently, we can make the Li-S battery with high current density operation and high discharge capacities. |
